Remembrance Sunday falls on 8 November 2026. Bury's parade has started at 10.30am in the same eight places two years running. The 2026 list is not out yet.

Remembrance Sunday 2026 falls on Sunday 8 November, and Armistice Day is Wednesday 11 November. Bury council has not yet published its list of parades and services for this year. It went out on 30 October last year and on 7 November the year before, so expect the 2026 details in the last week of October.

What we can tell you now is where the parades have been held, and at what times, in each of the last two years. Those timings have barely moved, which is the best guide anyone has until the council confirms.

Where the parades were held, and when

These are the times Bury council published for Remembrance Sunday 2025. Unless the council says otherwise, they are the pattern to plan around for 8 November 2026.

  • Bury town centre, 10.30am to 2pm. Parade, wreath laying and church service, along Knowsley Street, Haymarket Street and Market Street to the Cenotaph, then Bury Parish Church. The Elizabethan Suite follows.
  • Whitefield, 10am to 11.30am. Service and wreath laying at the Cenotaph, then a service at All Saints’ Church.
  • Ramsbottom, 10.30am to 12.30pm. Parade, wreath laying and service, from the Royal British Legion to St Paul’s Church and back.
  • Prestwich, 10.45am to 11.30am. Parade and Act of Remembrance, Rectory Lane to the war memorial by PADOS House.
  • Radcliffe, 10.45am to 1.30pm. Parade, wreath laying and service, from the Royal Oak to the Cenotaph, then St Thomas’s Church, returning to the Royal Oak.
  • Walshaw, 10.45am to 11.15am. Service and wreath laying.
  • Unsworth, 10.50am to 11.30am. Service and wreath laying at the Parr Lane Cenotaph.
  • Tottington, 2pm to 4pm. Parade, wreath laying and service, Harwood Road to the war memorial, then Market Street to St Anne’s Church.

Tottington is the one to note. It is the only afternoon event in the borough, so it is possible to attend a morning parade elsewhere and still get there.

The 2024 list, published on 7 November 2024, gave the same eight places at essentially the same times: Bury 10.30am to 2pm, Ramsbottom 10.30am to 12.30pm, Tottington 2pm to 4pm, Radcliffe 10.45am, Prestwich 10.45am, Walshaw 10.45am, Whitefield 10.55am and Unsworth 10.50am. Two identical years is not a guarantee, but it is a firm precedent.

Armistice Day, Wednesday 11 November

The borough’s Armistice Day ceremony is a short service in Gallipoli Gardens, outside the Fusilier Museum on Moss Street, with the two minute silence at 11am. In 2025 it was held by the Lancashire Fusiliers and started at 10.45am. Nothing has been published for 2026 yet.

Bury Remembers, the evening event

In 2025 the council added a new evening event, Bury Remembers, at Bury Parish Church on Tuesday 4 November, 7pm to 8.15pm with doors at 6.30pm. It carried memorial displays, candle lighting and performances from Bury Fire Choir, Bury Music Service, Bury Army Cadet Force Corps of Drums and Bury Youth Service, with input from the Manchester Community Pipe Band.

It was billed as an inaugural event, which usually means it returns. It has not been confirmed for 2026.

Road closures and getting there

Bury does not publish a standing Remembrance Sunday traffic order. The closures are made on the day: the council’s own decision record for the Radcliffe parade authorises temporary closures “as and when required by Greater Manchester Police to facilitate the assembly and procession”, rather than naming streets in advance.

In practice that means Knowsley Street, Haymarket Street and Market Street in Bury town centre are shut to traffic while the parade passes, roughly between 10.30am and midday, and the same applies around the Royal Oak in Radcliffe and Rectory Lane in Prestwich. Nothing is published in advance because nothing is fixed in advance.

If you are driving in, park before 10am and expect to walk. Our page on parking in Bury has the current tariffs and which car parks are free on a Sunday. For anything else that might get in the way that week, see Bury roadworks and travel.

The Metrolink is the simpler option for Bury town centre. Bury Interchange sits a few minutes’ walk from the Cenotaph, and the tram is not affected by the parade route.

Poppy Appeal

The Royal British Legion’s Poppy Appeal is launched in Bury each year by the mayor, and poppies are sold at Bury Market, in the Mill Gate and The Rock, and by branch volunteers across the borough from late October.
