Radcliffe's Cemetery Road tip shuts on Tuesday 6 and Wednesday 7 October for works. Every Street in Bury stays open, 8am daily, closing 6pm in winter.
Bury borough has two household waste and recycling centres, Every Street in Bury and Cemetery Road in Radcliffe, and both open at 8am seven days a week. The operator’s listings show an 8pm close; Bury Council’s page says the close comes forward to 6pm in winter. The only full closures in the year are Christmas Day and New Year’s Day. Cars can visit 52 times a year without any paperwork; anything van-shaped needs a permit sorted two working days ahead.
Radcliffe’s tip is shut on Tuesday 6 and Wednesday 7 October 2026 for essential works, the operator says. Use Every Street in Bury on those two days.
The quick answer
- Every Street, Bury BL9 5BE and Cemetery Road, Radcliffe M26 4FT, both open 8am every day, closing 8pm in summer and 6pm in winter.
- Closed only on 25 December and 1 January, plus Cemetery Road, Radcliffe, on Tuesday 6 and Wednesday 7 October 2026 for essential works.
- Cars: 52 visits a year, no permit. Vans, pick-ups, hire vans and twin-axle trailers: 18 visits a year with a permit applied for two working days before the first trip.
The two centres
Both are run for the ten Greater Manchester councils by Suez under the Recycle for Greater Manchester banner, so a Bury resident can use any of the Greater Manchester centres, not just these two. The council’s own recycling centre page also points Bury residents to Lumns Lane in Clifton, M27 8LN, across the Salford border.
| Centre | Address | Hours | Height barrier | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Every Street | Every Street, Bury, BL9 5BE | 8am to 8pm summer, 8am to 6pm winter, seven days | Yes, 2 metres | Taller vehicles are directed to the weighbridge |
| Cemetery Road | Cemetery Road, Radcliffe, M26 4FT | 8am to 8pm summer, 8am to 6pm winter, seven days | No | Takes vapes and Podback coffee pods |
The two sources disagree slightly on hours. The Every Street and Cemetery Road pages on the operator’s site say “Monday to Sunday: 8am to 8pm” with no seasonal note. Bury Council’s page says “8am until 8pm in summer” and “8am until 6pm in winter”, and the council’s January 2026 Christmas tree notice gave 8am to 6pm for both sites. Neither publishes the date the clocks change. Treat 6pm as the safe closing time from October to March and arrive before it.
Radcliffe tip opening times: Cemetery Road
The Radcliffe tip is the Cemetery Road recycling centre, M26 4FT. It opens 8am every day, and the council puts the winter close at 6pm.
It is temporarily closed on Tuesday 6 and Wednesday 7 October 2026 for essential works. The notice went up on the operator’s Cemetery Road page, last updated on 29 September 2026, which gives no detail of the works and no change to the hours either side. It should be open as normal again from Thursday 8 October. On the two closed days the nearest alternatives are Every Street in Bury, BL9 5BE, under three miles to the north-east as the crow flies, or Lumns Lane in Clifton, M27 8LN, a little further south, which the council also lists for Bury residents.
Cemetery Road has no height barrier, which makes it the easier of the two for a high-top van, and it is the borough’s only site taking vapes and Podback coffee pods.
Bury tip opening times: Every Street
The Bury tip is the Every Street recycling centre, BL9 5BE. It opens 8am every day. The operator’s page still read “Monday to Sunday: 8am to 8pm” when we checked on 3 October 2026, with no closures listed; the council’s page gives 6pm in winter, so do not plan on an evening run. Its 2 metre height barrier sends taller vehicles round to the weighbridge.
Who can bring what
Rules from the operator’s centre pages, which are the ones staff apply at the gate:
- Cars, SUVs, people carriers and cars with a single-axle trailer: 52 visits in the year from 1 April to 31 March. Number plates are read by ANPR, so the count is automatic.
- Vans, hire vans, pick-up trucks and cars towing a twin-axle trailer: a permit, and 18 visits a year. Apply on the van permit page at least two working days before the first visit. A car towing a twin-axle trailer has those 18 visits counted against its 52. Vans over 5.3 metres or 3.5 tonnes are not admitted at all. Permit problems go to gmcavanpermit.uk@suez.com.
- Pedestrians: no walk-in access at either site. Someone without a car can hand a small amount to staff at the entrance.
- Children and pets stay in the vehicle. Wear gloves and sort your load before you arrive, because staff check it at the gate.
- Rubble, soil and hardcore: a maximum of five sacks per visit.
- Not accepted: trade waste, asbestos (which goes to a transfer facility, not a recycling centre), petrol or diesel-powered items, car seats, cots, highchairs, prams, crash helmets and damaged textiles.
Both sites take the usual list: garden and food waste, wood, metal, glass, card, electricals, batteries, fluorescent tubes, household chemicals, gas bottles, engine oil, tyres, paint, furniture with a fire-safety label, books and media. Reusable items can be donated at the Renew point for the charity shops. Cemetery Road additionally takes vapes and e-cigarettes and has a Podback coffee pod bin.
Christmas and New Year
Both centres close on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day and open every other day. The council repeats this each December in its bin collection notice, and it is where it sends the extra cardboard and bottles that will not fit in the blue bin. Real and artificial Christmas trees are accepted. The revised kerbside dates for December are on our Christmas bin collections page.
Busy times
The operator flags weekend mornings and the days after a bank holiday as the queues at every Greater Manchester site. Every Street’s 2 metre barrier catches roof boxes and high-top hire vans, which then have to go round to the weighbridge, so a loaded hire van is easier at Cemetery Road. Roadworks on either approach are on our roadworks page, and the ordinary kerbside rota is on the bin collection days page.
